DHANUSHA : The Kamala bridge construction struggle committee has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister of Madhes Province, Satish Kumar Singh, demanding him to take initiative for constructing a bridge over the Kamala River at Dhanusa-Siraha border.

The bridge over the river is demanded for smooth operation of the Postal Highway that directly benefits the people in the southern belt of Tarai districts. The struggle committee joined by engineers from Siraha submitted the memorandum, drawing attention of the CM that the locals were bearing the brunt of not having a bridge over the Kamala River, which they argue, takes toll on them, especially during rains.

Engineer at Siraha municipality and coordinator of struggle committee, Prabin Kumar Yadav, said CM Singh was met with a single demand of the bridge construction. He was given a week’s ultimatum as well, Yadav added. “If the demand goes unheard, the struggle committee would launch stringent protest programmes,” coordinator Yadav warned.

Earlier, a massive rally was taken to street with the participation of politicos, intellects, youths and other stakeholders. They had questioned what the relevance of province was if they had to move the central government even after nine years of federalism in practice.
